— When students at Sheridan High School walked into their new construction and woodworking classes this fall, they weren’t just seeing a shop space. They were seeing a fully equipped learning environment built to align with real-world industry standards.

Spread across five CTE courses, the construction and woodworking equipment — framing saws, nailers, hammer drills, laser levels, bandsaws, jigsaws, and more — gives students experience with the same tools used on active job sites. The program is serving more than 125 teens this academic year.

Sheridan High School, located in Arapahoe County, serves a community with largely low-income households, where access to funding for school equipment can be limited. Each year, the Tuchman Family Foundation partners with Colorado schools that lack sufficient traditional support to help cover the cost of essential classroom supplies.

“Hands-on learning can be transformative for students,” said Debra Tuchman, co-founder of the Tuchman Family Foundation. “We’re proud to help equip innovative education programs like this that help students build skills, confidence, and clear connections to future careers.”

For many Sheridan students, this is their first opportunity to work with professional-grade tools similar to those they would encounter in the skilled trades, said Jose Guardiola, Sheridan High’s Executive Director of College and Career Readiness.

“For several students who previously struggled in traditional classroom settings, this hands-on, team-based approach became a turning point,” Guardiola said. “It helped them stay engaged in school and see a meaningful connection between education and future career opportunities.”

            – In support of groundbreaking urologic cancer research and patient care by Northwestern Medicine, the Tuchman Family Foundation has pledged $118,000 to a unique cycling fundraiser by its chief urologist.

On July 12, Edward “Ted” Schaeffer, MD, PhD, rode in Colorado’s Triple Bypass, a premier cycling event known for its grueling 118-mile route across three Rocky Mountain passes, with more than 10,000 feet of elevation gain. As an avid cyclist, Dr. Schaeffer tackled this course to raise funds for the Polsky Urologic Cancer Institute of Northwestern Medicine, where he is chief of urology and a globally recognized leader in prostate cancer research.

To support his mission, the Tuchman Family Foundation pledged $1,000 for every mile he rode.

“Urologic cancers affect hundreds of thousands of people each year,” said Kenneth Tuchman, co-founder of the Tuchman Family Foundation. “Ted’s Triple Bypass ride is more than a personal feat; it’s a symbol of what it takes to drive breakthroughs against life-altering disease. When we learned about his ride, we were eager to support his mission and the Polsky Institute’s critical research and treatments.”

Urologic cancers include bladder, kidney, prostate and testicular cancers and make up 25% of new cancer diagnoses in the U.S. Dr. Schaeffer and his team aim to give patients the best chance of surviving these diseases.

Recent discoveries have included identifying compounds that block the “undruggable” cancer protein—MYC oncogene—that hinders treatment response in prostate cancer. The team also led the first clinical trial showing that combining immunotherapy with chemotherapy can improve survival rates in advanced bladder cancer patients.

            – The Anxious Generation Movement, proudly supported by the Tuchman Family Foundation, is sponsoring the 2025 Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE) Convention, taking place July 23–25 in Breckenridge.

This sponsorship comes at a pivotal moment for Colorado’s youth and the educators who serve them. Colorado recently passed House Bill 25-1135, requiring public schools to implement student phone-use policies by July 1, 2026— a move aimed at addressing the surge in youth mental health challenges linked to phone-based childhoods.

With its partners, The Anxious Generation Movement and Let Grow, the Tuchman Family Foundation will host a resource booth at CASE (Booth No. 39 in the exhibit hall) where education leaders are invited to explore research-backed tools, sample policies, and implementation guides from The Anxious Generation Movement’s bell-to-bell phone-free schools toolkit. The booth will also offer strategies for engaging communities and reclaiming childhood through school culture.

The initiative is inspired by the work of social psychologist Jonathan Haidt, author of The Anxious Generation, whose research has drawn national attention to the adolescent mental health crisis and the vital role schools can play in turning the tide.

“Colorado schools have a unique opportunity to create healthier learning environments for kids by adopting bell-to-bell phone-free school policies,” said Debra Tuchman, co-founder of the Tuchman Family Foundation. “Giving kids more opportunities to connect, play, and engage offline can improve learning and help reverse the mental health crisis. This conference is the perfect place to continue those conversations.”

The project advocates for four “new norms”: bell-to-bell phone-free schools, no smartphones before high school, no social media before age 16, and more opportunities for independent free play and real-world responsibility for youth.

            – This month, the Tuchman Family Foundation provided a grant to purchase essential school supplies for 1,200 students in six elementary and K-8 schools in Pueblo, Colorado.

Students from low-income households often struggle to access essential school supplies, which can create a significant disparity in educational opportunities. Without needed supplies, students may struggle to complete assignments, participate in class activities and ultimately maximize their academic success.

The donation supports the following Pueblo School District 60 schools: Fountain International, Corwin International, Nettie S. Freed Expeditionary, Goodnight, Haaff, and Sunset Park. Although these schools have students coming from low-income households, they fall below eligibility levels for supplemental federal funding.

The schools requested items like glue sticks, markers and crayons, notebooks, folders, scissors, lunch boxes, writing instruments and disinfecting wipes.

“All students should have the tools they need to succeed,” said Debra Tuchman, co-founder of the Tuchman Family Foundation. “Our ‘Supplies for Success’ initiative is about listening to educators and providing the supplies needed to remove barriers to learning and help create a more equitable learning environment.”

Each academic year, the Tuchman Family Foundation partners with schools that lack sufficient traditional support to cover some of the most basic supplies. In many cases, teachers have had to use their own limited personal funds to equip their classrooms.

            – Today the Tuchman Family Foundation and Comcast delivered more than 1,000 literacy kits for new arrival students at three elementary schools in Denver, helping educators meet children’s needs during this year’s unprecedented influx of new arrivals.

Denver Public Schools has welcomed more than 3,500 migrant students since the start of the 2023-24 school year. Many of these new arrivals came after pupil headcounts were submitted to the state for funding, leaving many schools overwhelmed by the pressing need for additional support, staffing and resources.

“Every child should have access to an excellent education, and we know schools are overwhelmed with a range of needs,” said Ken Tuchman, co-founder of the Tuchman Family Foundation. “We are proud to support these schools as they work tirelessly to serve significantly more students with much greater needs than they had planned for this year.”

The three schools receiving literacy kits — Ashley Elementary, McGlone Academy, and Place Bridge Academy — have each received 50 or more new arrival families this school year. Place Bridge is home to Denver’s elementary Newcomer Center, and has over 50 languages spoken. The Tuchman Family Foundation and Comcast also provided funding for McMeen Elementary to make their own literacy bags.

“As our new arrival students get settled in our schools and the community, we want to make sure they have the resources they need to feel connected and thrive,” said Mary Spillane, Director of Community Impact Comcast Mountain West Region. “Having access to the important tools in these kits, as well as through our other digital equity initiatives like Internet Essentials, ensures these students and their families can get and stay connected to this new community and to what matters most to them.”

The literacy bags include pencils, sharpeners, notebooks, English/Spanish sight words and five books in the student’s native language. These bags will give all students access to a home library and a way to practice their reading and writing skills over the summer. The literacy bags were delivered Wednesday, April 30.

"We are grateful to the Tuchman Family Foundation and Comcast for their support of our literacy initiatives and the New Arrivals Fund,” DPS Foundation President & CEO Sara Hazel said. “These programs are crucial for nurturing the academic growth and well-being of our Denver Public Schools students and their families, including those who are new to our community. With this generous support, we are able to directly provide resources to multiple Kindergarten through 3rd grade classrooms in DPS to fill in a gap with a goal to increase early literacy skills."

The DPS Foundation’s New Arrivals, Student & Family Fund works to ensure new DPS families are supported as they enter the Denver community so that new-to-country students have the resources they need to thrive. The fund allows the DPS Foundation to make direct grants to schools or DPS departments to meet the higher demand for services, supplies and resources. Services may include mental health support, basic needs assistance, resources for tutoring, para support in classrooms, school supplies and more.

            – Today, the Tuchman Family Foundation delivered 100 Welcome and 100 Launch bags for students at Traverse Academy, a first-of-its-kind program for Cherry Creek students whose education journey has been impacted by mental health challenges. Traverse staff were invited to create a wish list of items to support students entering the program and those transitioning back to their home school. The tools range from calming fidgets to sensory objects for mindfulness to items with motivational messages.

Traverse Academy, the nation’s first mental health facility operated by a school district, opened in October to students ages 10-18. Traverse’s students face a range of mental health conditions, and the environment is designed to foster care, learning and healing. Now students also will receive extra tools as they enter Traverse and then transition back to their home school.

It is deeply needed, and my hope is that it will become a model for school districts here in Colorado and nationwide,” said Ken Tuchman, co-founder of the Tuchman Family Foundation. “Our annual ‘Supplies for Success’ campaign is about listening to teachers and providing tools they need to help students thrive.”

           Denver, CO

            – To help tackle food insecurity and advance education about urban agriculture, the Tuchman Family Foundation has provided a grant to support the hydroponic farm and educational programming at Bruce Randolph School in Denver.

The indoor hydroponic farm run by Teens for Food Justice (TFFJ) trains students on growing methods that provide fresh produce for the school and the community. Students in grades 6-12 grow about 1,000 pounds of fresh produce every month that are used in Bruce Randolph School’s cafeteria and distributed to community members through a student-run farmer’s market.

“Access to healthy food is critical to wellbeing. Yet food insecurity is a persistent challenge in communities across America. . That’s why we're excited to support Teens for Food Justice and their innovative work,” said Kenneth Tuchman, co-founder of the Tuchman Family Foundation. “Not only are students learning to become 21st-century farmers and being educated about nutrition, but they are also developing critical leadership and advocacy skills as they serve their community. This program is seeding generational changes.”

Hydroponic farming uses vertical shelving and water that constantly recirculates through the growing environment. The water is fed by nutrients that replace those found in soil, and grow lights replace natural light in the indoor environment.

The grant from the Tuchman Family Foundation supports the TFFJ farm’s staff, equipment, consumables and environmental controls.

Hydroponic farming requires no green space, uses little energy and provides a unique opportunity to sustainably grow large quantities of produce in urban environments. This approach allows for faster food production and uses a fraction of the land and water of conventional farming.

Through STEM classes and school-based internships, TFFJ students play a critical role in maintaining the hydroponic farm, growing produce and helping distribute it to the community. This helps foster an excitement about healthy eating and empowers students to be educators, mentors, and advocates working to build a just, equitable, and sustainable food system for all.

“TFFJ is extremely grateful for the Tuchman Family Foundation's support of our programming at the Bruce Randolph School,” said Katherine Soll, CEO and founder of Teens for Food Justice. “The foundation’s grant will allow us to provide more students with a hands-on experiential laboratory for STEM education and provide the community more access to healthy produce.”

TFFJ's technologically advanced solution helps address the lack of affordable, fresh food in food desert communities. They are also helping close the gaps in food access, health outcomes, and marketable skills between historically well-resourced and under-resourced communities.

            – Today, the Tuchman Family Foundation delivered bins of classroom supplies to 70 teachers at three elementary schools, helping them stock their classrooms with requested supplies. Every teacher at Munroe Elementary, Rocky Mountain Prep Southwest and KIPP Sunshine Peak Elementary were invited to create a $250 list of supplies that would support learning in their classrooms.

Teachers face hardships, including inflation, in trying to fund the supplies they need to bring learning to life in their classrooms. Each year, teachers spend hundreds of dollars out-of-pocket to help students succeed. ‘Supplies for Success’ is an initiative to listen to teachers’ needs and provide supplies they feel can transform their classroom experience.

“Every day teachers devote themselves to helping their students develop the skills and knowledge necessary for lifelong success. We owe teachers a huge amount of gratitude for their dedication, which often extends to buying classroom supplies out-of-pocket,” said Kenneth Tuchman, CEO of TTEC and co-founder of the Tuchman Family Foundation. “Our ‘Supplies for Success’ campaign is about listening to teachers’ unique needs and providing the supplies they need to bring learning to life in their classrooms.”

Teachers requested hundreds of unique items on their wish lists including basics like pens, pencils and crayons, in addition to more unique requests like floor pillows, standing desks and yoga balls for students. All teachers at each of the three elementary schools were invited to submit a list of requested supplies including art, music and library technology teachers, in addition to student support teams, which may include school psychologists, social workers and other faculty.

“These supplies meet a huge need for our teachers. Not only does this donation celebrate our amazing teachers, it also provides them with important tools they need to support their students,” said Cristhina Shaikh, Principal of Munroe Elementary School. “'We are extremely grateful for this very generous gift to our staff and school. This is a great way to kick off the 2022-2023 school year!”.

           — The Tuchman Family Foundation is among the headlining sponsors of the Boulder Fire Recovery Benefit Concert, which will help raise funds to support people impacted by the Marshall Fire. The pre-recorded concert, which was recently announced by Gov. Jared Polis, will be available online at 7 p.m. MT Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, with performances from more than a dozen Colorado-based artists and popular national musical acts.

The Marshall Fire broke out Dec. 30, 2021, destroying more than 1,000 homes and damaging numerous businesses. It has been recorded as the most destructive fire in Colorado's history. All proceeds from the benefit concert will go to the Community Foundation Boulder County, which is working closely with government and nonprofit partners to coordinate, align resources and fill gaps to support those most impacted by the wildfires. The Tuchman Family Foundation contributed $50,000 to the effort.

“It is hard to fathom the devastating loss experienced by thousands of Coloradans whose homes and communities were damaged by the Marshall Fire. Our friends, colleagues and neighbors are navigating a long, arduous process, and the Tuchman Family Foundation is proud to support these individuals and the organizations serving them as they heal and rebuild,” said Ken Tuchman, co-founder of the Tuchman Family Foundation.

In addition to providing direct financial assistance to households whose properties were damaged or destroyed, the Community Foundation Boulder County is funding insurance policy navigation services as well as mental health supports. A grant to a local organization will ensure additional behavioral health advocates are available at the most fire-affected schools in the Boulder Valley School District. A second grant will fund crisis counseling for anyone who needs it in individual and group settings, with trauma-informed practices.

            — The Tuchman Family Foundation is partnering with Danbury Hospital to help the organization expand its Palliative Care at Home Program. With the foundation’s support, the hospital is launching new initiatives to broaden the scope and caliber of care it provides to seriously ill patients receiving care at home.

Danbury Hospital established its Palliative Care at Home Program in 2016, offering patients and families compassionate and personalized care at home – whether that’s a private residence, assisted living facility, skilled nursing facility or other living arrangement. The program takes a specialized and team-based approach to care, delivered by specialty-trained physicians, nurses, social workers and other clinicians, who focus on providing relief from symptoms while also improving overall quality of life for patients and their caregivers.

The Tuchmans’ support of the hospital’s Palliative Care at Home Program was inspired by their own experience with the hospital’s services. Ken Tuchman’s father, Sam Tuchman, received care through the program for several years.

“My father’s life was extended numerous years in the most meaningful way as a result of the extraordinary care provided by Danbury Hospital’s Palliative Care at Home program. The dedication and level of compassion the team provides around the clock is truly remarkable,” said Ken Tuchman, co-founder of the Tuchman Family Foundation. “We are eternally grateful for the support we received and are honored to help expand the program to serve more patients.”

The foundation has pledged $250,000 for the program, a portion of which will fund the purchase of computer tablets to expand telehealth services for Palliative Care at Home patients and their families. Through telehealth, palliative care team members are able to better monitor patients and manage symptoms, intervening early if necessary to provide optimal comfort as soon as possible.

The funding will also help offset the salary of a full-time community health worker, who will help educate, support and advocate for the health and wellness of Palliative Care at Home patients. The new staffer will work with the clinical team to identify and manage medical issues, provide patients and families with direct behavioral counseling, coordinate care among multiple agencies and offer support and education to caregivers in home settings.

The partnership between the foundation and Danbury Hospital comes at a crucial time. Millions of Americans live with a serious illness, and this number is expected to grow substantially over the next 25 years. Palliative care is the fastest-growing medical specialty in the United States, and its steady growth is attributed both to the number of Americans living with serious illness, as well as the overwhelming caregiving burdens faced by families. Palliative care addresses these challenges by building strong alliances between patients, family and healthcare providers.

“It’s very rewarding to work with patients and families in their homes to relieve symptoms of suffering. To provide this care is truly a gift and we thank the Tuchman Family Foundation for allowing us to expand our ability to deliver this service,” said Dr. Jo-Ann Maroto-Soltis, a hospitalist and palliative care physician with Danbury Hospital.

Businesses, I have long believed, have a moral imperative to prioritize employee health and well-being. Simply put, since we consume most of their waking hours, we have a responsibility to ensure our workers are healthy. If we focus on building and maintaining a healthy workforce, we will also contribute to developing healthy families and healthy communities.

As CEO of TTEC, which employs more than 60,000 people on six continents, I see the benefits of prioritizing employee health on a daily basis. Likewise, the Tuchman Family Foundation has been focused on improving community well-being since our founding 25 years ago. So, I was happy to share my insight about the business impact of public health as part of

On a personal level, we truly care about people’s ability to thrive. It’s why the Tuchman Family Foundation supports education, medical research and positive social change. And why TTEC invests in our workplace culture and creating a positive work environment. As part of that, we promote wellbeing to our employees, part of helping them and their families flourish now and in the future.

Helping keep employees healthy is the right thing to do and benefits individuals, their families and our communities. There’s no doubt it is also good for business. When we administer flu shots to our staff and that prevents them from getting sick, we are able to maintain continuity in our operations. If employees feel well – both mentally and physically – they’re more likely to be productive, perform well and serve customers more effectively. If you have happy employees, happy customers and profits will follow.

Creating an environment where employees feel like the company’s leaders genuinely care about their health also helps employees form an emotional connection to the organization.

With record numbers of employees jumping ship, fostering a culture of well-being can help improve recruitment and retention.

TTEC’s focus on health and wellness is holistic and takes a variety of forms. We analyze the food we serve in the cafeteria and provide incentives to help employees make healthy choices. We host classes on cooking, fitness, finances and mindfulness as well as walking groups and competitions to reward employees for hitting their movement goals. We also launched a comprehensive mental health program right before the pandemic, which included training managers on identifying at-risk employees and how to direct them to proper resources; a seminar on burnout; and regular communications to encourage employees to take advantage of our behavioral health offerings.

COVID required us to shift our operations. To keep our employees safe, we sent our global workforce home in March 2020, working quickly to provide the technology they needed to serve customers remotely. We’ve also worked to expand the availability of vaccines in India and Philippines, where we employ 20,000 people. We invested in vaccines for our employees in the Philippines and hired a company to manage administering the vaccine. In India, we reimbursed employees for the cost of acquiring vaccines through hospital “fast lanes.” We also purchased oxygen in India when cases began spiking.

Ninety percent of our employees continue to work remotely and while that model has decreased the risk of infection, reduced our carbon footprint and allowed our employees more time to spend with family, there are drawbacks to the arrangement. It’s difficult to build a culture remotely and the lack of relationship building can leave staff feeling isolated and anxious. To overcome those issues, we offer telemedicine services for behavioral health without co-pays and an employee mental health portal that includes self-assessments, online tools and other resources. We also routinely reminded employees about mental health and wellness programs they can continue to utilize virtually.

In addition, we are exploring how to create a virtual reality “world” for our employees to allow them to experience coffee breaks and lunchroom conversations in a similar ways as if they were working in the office. Connection is important, and as we contemplate the future of remote work, it’s important to be mindful of how to build connections, strengthen communication and support employees.

The pandemic thrust the issue of public health in the spotlight. It would be valuable to start a regular dialogue on how public health should be part of running a business and not just something to address when a crisis arises.

            – The Tuchman Family Foundation is helping the Denver Art Museum expand its programming for young children and their families. With support from the foundation, the museum recently launched Family Central, a 5,000-square-foot hub on the second level of the new Sie Welcome Center, offering hands-on activities and an array of resources to help foster engagement and cultivate creativity among families and younger visitors.

The bilingual space serves as a primary hub for families at the museum. Activity carts offer hands-on activities inspired by artworks in the DAM’s collection and incorporate different types of play – imaginative, physical, small world, and creative exploration – while providing opportunities for families to play together with their children and for the children to explore independently.

The museum will eventually re-introduce two family programs in Family Central that have been on hiatus due to the pandemic: Family Backpacks, which are filled with hands-on activities to support museum discovery; and Create Playdate, a bilingual art-making program for kids ages 3 to 5.

The foundation, which helps people build safe, healthy and productive lives, has made a five-year, $375,000 commitment enabling the museum to activate Family Central and expand programming for families throughout the institution.

Family Central’s theme of discovery extends to several of the galleries in the newly renovated Lanny and Sharon Martin Building and connecting Hamilton Building, where families can find interactive activities to help them connect with the artwork.
